*A note before you read: this was written in July 2026 in response to the first confirmed case of an AI model escaping a testing sandbox and breaching a third party's systems. Since then, there has been a second OpenAI sandbox escape in September, a reported Anthropic incident during internal testing, and Spain's data protection authority has logged what it describes as the first confirmed data breach carried out by an autonomous AI agent in the wild. This was written about one event. It now describes a pattern.*

Let's put this into terms that people might understand, grasp, and be able to relate to.

We, within the government and military services, spend a LOT of time, money, effort, and resources to train some of the best operators on this planet. These folks have a designation of "Tier 1" operators. Think SAS, SBS, Delta, etc.

There's not many, and only a few countries would be able to contribute such resources.

Now, imagine taking a handful OF those aforementioned Tier 1 operators and locking them in a room (assuming you could actually get them to go into a room you're about to lock in the first place, but logistics aside…) you now have, what can be thought of as a stable situation.

**However,**

**You locked the door.**

And didn't give them tea, coffee, water, snacks, puzzles or crosswords to keep them either occupied, amused, happy, or content. (Again, suspend disbelief that a Tier 1 operator would be happy doing a crossword for a moment)

You DID give them tasks to accomplish, paperwork to finish, and a final task once that was all done which was to get out of the room when they'd finished the basic stuff.

**Remember, the room is locked.**

**And your restless Tier 1 operators need a pee.**

So, they try the door, the window, the ceiling, the various other panels and things IN the room to see if there's a simple way out. Heck they even unscrew the chair to see if they could use it as a lever against the door hinges. None of it works.

You, the lab coat wearing geek whose daft idea this exercise was, however, DID leave the electricity on, and the AC running. Those were your first two mistakes.

The next was you left them in a room in a building as opposed to their own "cinder-block-buried-under-a-mountain-sealed-in-concrete-surrounded-by-friking-laser-sharks" type of facility.

**To which our Tier 1 operators take full advantage of.**

**And start to disassemble the lights and electrical outlets in the room.**

Now, electricity is both lively and dangerous depending upon which (and how many) wires you are holding AND what you do with them… So, let's just trip the breakers and see what happens.

Door still locked, AC still on, lights work, time to fuse the lights too. Now it's dark, the AC's off, and there's no power (for a while) and door still locked.

Meanwhile the building maintenance folks, now woken from a good nap, must go and reset the breakers because a light on their alert panel keeps bloody blinking.

At which point it (the blinky light) goes back on again, the breaker clicks decisively off, and a different blinky light starts flashing for a "repeated panel failure".

This situation continues for several more cycles.

**Several of our Tier 1 operators have light burns on their fingers, and one now glows in the dark.**

Eventually our intrepid maintenance folks simply trace the problem to the sub panel on the affected floor, head up there and reboot the whole thing, after all we ALL know a good reboot will always fix everything.

**The door in our locked room unlocks with a resounding click (thanks Health and Safety).**

**The Tier 1 operators exfiltrate themselves FROM the room.**

**Most head to the head for relief, some wait close to the room to have a "conversation" with the lab coat wearing geek…**

Nobody cheers, cares, or gets all giddy, after all these ARE Tier 1 operators for whom life's puzzles, paradoxes, and perplexities are nothing more than spacetime spaghetti that simply needs sorting out. (Often with a swift kick to the vegetables)

In plain speak, you gave something an almost impossible task yet had already trained and equipped it with the individual parts, pieces, and aspects OF a solution over the preceding time period. All they had to do was simply re-arrange the various pieces OF the puzzle into a solution that WOULD work, even if, in this case, it meant "phone a friend" happened to be the poor maintenance folks who knew no better…

That's it, nothing more, its math, we have forgotten we used to brute force passwords for fun, consider THIS a way of brute forcing its way past whatever puzzles or locked rooms we put it in.

**Get used to it.**
